Statistics, huh? No, not the Pythagorean Theorem, but numbers that are relevant to why we need to focus on the importance of reversing the affects of Global Warming.
There are a number of potential crises that can occur in our local environments as well as all over the planet if we are continuing to stay on the vicious pace of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
» 75% of all fish are over-fished.
» 1/5th of all plant and animal specials will be lost within the next 20 years.
» In industrialized nations, cars and transportation account for over 30% of the world's energy use and 95% of oil consumption.
We all love polar bears and our favorite animals, but they are at severe risk of becoming virtually extinct because of people and corporation's habits. Did you know that China and the United States count for over 33% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions? Countries are depleting natural resources at a record pace and are dropping out of United Nation sponsored emission control programs, notably the Kyoto Protocol. China and the United States have refused to sign on after their 12 year contracts are up in 2012.
Everyone can make a difference, they just need to care.
What can you do to help the reversal of global warming affects? Do your best to make your voice heard in your local communities. Solar powered trash compactors are scattered throughout Boston and can be viewed as an incredibly efficient tool, and a small step in the right direction for our futures. Focus on what you need, rather than what you want. Public transportation is a perfect example of saving energy and money as well as stimulating local economy. Recycling and encouraging younger generations the importance of knowledge and effective tools to help are extremely beneficial to both our current lives as well as for your future families lives.
